The STM32-dvm board I got is the Pi-Hat version that sits on top of a Raspberry Pi2 or 3. I'm using it with a Pi 3.
It was virtually plug - configure - and - play seeing that for $40 US more, I purchased the cable and connector assembly to make easy work of connecting it to the Yaesu Fusion repeater. There is also a USB version of the board that permits it to be used with other computer systems that are not Raspberry Pi based.
Other local users of the STM32-DVM are the _ DMR repeater. The assembly of the _ DMR repeater is making use of the USB version of the DVM.
All others, I believe, are mating the STM32-DVM with a separate transmitter and receiver mobile (Motorola) radio to build up a duplex pair. The DVM must have direct mod and demod from the radio TX FM modulator and RX discriminator to permit 9600 bps data rate. The Yaesu DR-1X repeater inherently has these connectors available on a rear panel 15 pin connector.
So based on my experience, I would recommend the STM32-DVM board available from:

If you would be using it with the Yaesu DR-1X repeater, it has to be an early version. See the write up at:
